Christmas is the season of giving, yet, sometimes I feel like gift-giving causes me more stress than joy. Hours spent walking the aisles of department stores, scanning the mall windows, even shopping online looking for the “perfect” gift. An endless brainstorm of what to get this person or that, only to find out that someone else had that same idea, or it turns out he/she already has one. As I was thinking about what remains of my Christmas list this week, I came up with an idea: Pray It Forward. Could there be a better gift than that of committing to pray for someone you love? Ephesians 6:18 says, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
Here’s my plan. I am going to wrap up the following note, just like I would any other present, and give the gift of prayer. I don’t want this to turn into one of those mass emails, posts, or tweets. I want it to be a genuine display of love. For this reason, I will only give this gift to the number of people whom I truly intend to pray for on a regular basis. If you want to “Pray It Forward” with me, feel free to use my note or write one of your own. Together we can pray for all the Lord’s people.
This year I want to bless you with the greatest gift, the ultimate gift, the original gift – Jesus Christ. I would like to commit to pray for you. Feel free to send me specific prayer requests (email, text, call). If you have no requests, I will still pray for you because the Lord knows your needs even before you are aware of them. If you want to participate in “Pray It Forward,” offer the gift of prayer to someone you love and let the blessings flow.
